For the longest time, Kamikochi and Togakushi Shrine existed in my heart like a distant dream, yearned for with all my soul. Now that the journey was truly beginning, a flutter of apprehension stirred within me, feeling much like an adventure into the unknown. Though the heavens wept with relentless rain as I visited Togakushi Shrine and Zenkoji Temple, rendering the anticipated itinerary somewhat disheveled, it was precisely in those moments of holding umbrellas with heavy, weary steps that I unexpectedly harvested the most precious gift of all. I discovered that even across a language barrier, connection between souls in that foreign landscape required no excess of words. That newfound confidence in human communion became the warmest, most comforting echo of this rainy autumn expedition.
Not a word of Japanese known, unable to speak, unable to understand—the flutter of apprehension before a first solo journey was truly overwhelming !!! 😓
Rumor has it that Shinjuku Station is a labyrinthine maze !!! 😮💨
Word says countless travelers lose their way within Tokyo Station !!! 😮💨
Tokyo's subway during rush hour is a suffocating sea of humanity—a chaos best avoided at all costs. 😱
Haunted by the fear of getting lost, I spent my days before departure intensively patrolling Google Map, running virtual simulations of every route.🧭
YouTube travel vlogs proved to be the most tender, guiding textbooks for the journey ahead.✍️

Under a sky of lingering clouds and gentle rain. ☂️
Savoring the buttery perfection of a flaky, delicious croissant. 🥐
Shinjuku Station is far less daunting than rumored—with clear, comforting guidance in Traditional Chinese signs welcoming Taiwanese travelers with familiar warmth. 😄💕
Resting the night at Hotel Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku, perfectly nestled near the station with endless choices for dining and discovery just steps away. 🛌
Bic Camera and Don Quijote are a pleasant twenty-minute stroll into the pulsating heart of the city. 🛍️

Riding the Azusa Limited Express and choosing a left window seat, I was blessed with the rare fortune of catching a glimpse of Mount Fuji's very first dusting of snow crowning its summit. 🗻
Savoring soba noodles for the very first time right beside Matsumoto Station—though unaccustomed to their rustic, chewy texture and finishing only half before reluctantly letting the rest go. 😅
The historic landmark of Matsumoto Castle exuded a profound sense of timeless heritage, glowing with pristine elegance under the evening lights.🏯
The breathtaking Hida Mountains (the Northern Alps) stretched majestically across the western horizon of the city. 🏔️🏔️🏔️
In the serene sanctuary of Yohashira Shrine, surrounded by a flock of gentle doves, one unexpectedly fluttered down to rest directly upon my shoulder without a moment's warning. 🕊️🕊️🕊️

The forest trails were alive with a steady stream of gentle footfall, yet entirely free of clamor; an endless symphony of bear bells 🐻🔔chimed softly through the air, serving as a constant, comforting reminder that this was a realm of the wild—a place both intimately crowded and profoundly serene.
The chorus of chirping insects, singing birds, and rushing streams held center stage, and sitting down to a quiet picnic amidst the towering, straight-growing pines instantly set the soul completely at ease. 🌲🌲
Taisho Pond served as a flawless mirror, reflecting the majestic, breathtaking beauty of the Hotaka Mountain Range. ⛰️
Tashiro Marsh unfolded like a damp, vibrantly colored palette—compact and exquisite, captivating the heart so deeply that one could hardly bear to leave. 🏞️
Gazing upon the Hotaka peaks from Kappa Bridge stirred a deep, thrilling wave of emotion, whispering, 'I have finally arrived'. 🌁
The weathered white birch snags of Tashiro Marsh possessed a timeless, rugged grace that kept both body and spirit lingering in quiet awe.
Myojin Pond, both sacred and breathtaking, was a treasure well worth every ounce of time and effort to reach. ⛩️
Conquering the entire trail in eight hours proved to be a rigorous test of endurance; splitting the journey across two relaxed half-days is far more fitting.
The path between Kappa Bridge and Taisho Pond is rich in scenery and wonderfully level—a beloved, accessible route that I wholeheartedly recommend.
The trek from Kappa Bridge to Myojin Pond, by contrast, demands more, yet if you seek the sacred atmosphere of Myojin, every exhausting step is profoundly worthwhile.
Staying at Nishi-eniya Sanshu and spending the evening chatting late into the night with a Japanese gentleman via smartphone translation was an utterly novel and delightful experience. 💖

A revered spiritual energy field renowned for its ancient shrines and towering, sky-reaching ancient trees. ⛩️🌲
The stay was nothing short of wonderful—the innkeeper of Yokokura Ryokan was exceptionally warm-hearted and kind. 🛖
Togakushi Chusha Shrine stood solemn and serene, where a magnificent, centuries-old 'three-stemmed tree' of immense height and girth left an unforgettable impression. ⛩️
Torrential downpours threw the itinerary into disarray, forcing a reluctant cancellation of the visit to Kagami-ike Pond. 😤
Standing before the ancient Zuishinmon Gate and walking down the path flanked by three-to-four-hundred-year-old giant cedars, I was deeply overwhelmed by the sense that nature alone is eternal.
A sanctuary truly worth seeking out for its profound, hidden beauty.

A temple brimming with fervent devotion and thriving incense, even amidst a torrential downpour. 😓
Half of all the protective amulets (omamori) on display were dedicated to traffic safety—just how deeply devoted to safe travels can they possibly be?!
Beyond the magnificent main hall, the plaza out front even houses a bustling department store for charms and ascetic supplies, ensuring no pilgrim ever leaves empty-handed.

The layout is far less labyrinthine than legend suggests—simply keep the directions of Marunouchi and Yaesu clearly in mind.
From the Marunouchi side, breathtaking views of the magnificent station architecture unfold before your eyes.
Tucked away on the first basement level is a remarkably delicious self-service teppanyaki restaurant—a hidden gem where even a wait in line is profoundly worthwhile.
Fear not, linguistic novices! Even with broken English, the world of Japan opens its arms to the bold and solo traveler. ✌️
Securing railway tickets and accommodations in advance weaves a seamless, graceful rhythm into the journey. 🚞🛌
Both Kamikochi and Togakushi Shrine are sanctuaries so profound, they truly deserve a two-day stay to be tasted and felt in all their quiet splendor.
